Use the Plug-in Mixer and Plug-ins Without UC1
The plug-ins and Plug-in Mixer can be used without the UC1 hardware attached!
SSL 360° Not Required to use Channel Strip 2 and Bus Compressor 2
However, features such as SOLO work by cutting the other Channel Strip plug-ins outputs, via SSL 360°. SSL 360° also must be installed to use the Plug-in Mixer and UC1.
Multi-Mono Plug-ins
With Channel Strip 2 and Bus Compressor 2, we continue to provide multi-mono plug-ins as we have always done. However, there are some limitations when using with the Plug-in Mixer. In Pro Tools sessions you can use multi-mono plug-ins but only the left-leg is displayed in the Plug-in Mixer. In Logic, multi-mono plug-ins are not supported by the Plug-in Mixer.
Upgrade to v2 Channel Strip and Bus Compressor
A new license is not required to upgrade your existing Channel Strip and Bus Compressor Plug-ins. To upgrade simply download and install the desired version of the plugin.
Plugins may be downloaded here.
Existing Channel Strip and Bus Compressor licenses will work for Channel Strip 2 and Bus Compressor 2.
This is also true for the Slate Digital-subscription licenses.
Channel Strip Emulation
The SSL Native Channel Strip was developed from our digital modelling of the XL9000K series console EQ and Dynamics curves. The SuperAnalogue circuits of the XL9000K are renowned for their extended frequency bandwidth, minimal phase shift, low-distortion and all-round punchy sound.
SSL Native 4K B offers the sound of the legendary SL 4000 B-series console in your DAW. Expertly modelled, the 4K B plug-in is an authentic emulation full of tone, punch and rich non-linear analogue character – making it the perfect companion to the cleaner 9K-inspired Channel Strip 2 plug-in.
Plug-ins in the Plug-in Mixer (and on UC1) to follow the order of Logic
The recommended procedure is:
For Aux Tracks, right-click on the track name in the Logic mixer and click "Create Track" to add it to the Arrange page. This will allow the Plug-in Mixer to synchronize the track number.
If running Logic 10.6.0 and below, plug-ins are ordered based on when they were instantiated in the Logic session. After they have been added to the Plug-in Mixer, they can be re-ordered by clicking and dragging in the Plug-in Mixer track name area (Zoomed Out View only).
Please also note if using 10.6.0 and below it is important to disable Dynamic Plug-in Loading at the start of each project as it can cause issues in the Plug-in Mixer.
To do this, in Logic go to File > Project > General and un-tick 'Only load plug-ins needed for project playback'.
SOLO Not Working
When using the VST3 plugins in Live, Studio One, Reaper and LUNA, SOLO and CUT now directly control the DAW's SOLO and MUTE functions.
For all other DAWs the SOLO button on the channel strips works by cutting the output of all other channel strip plug-ins in the DAW session. It doesn't directly control the DAWs solos. The best way to use the SOLO feature is to place a channel strip onto all the tracks in the DAW session, ensuring the SOLO SAFE button is engaged on plug-ins that are inserted on Auxes/Buses/Sub Groups.
AU/VST Channel Strip 2 & Bus Compressor 2 Not Showing on UC1
In Cubase, Studio One, Live, and REAPER AU and VST plug-ins are not supported by the plug-in mixer.
Use the provided VST3 plug-in formats, as these provide the SSL 360° Plug-in Mixer with special hooks to synchronise the DAW track name and track number. See this FAQ (Studio One and SSL Native) for information about using SSL VST3 plugins in Studio One on ARM based Macs. The above does not apply for Logic, whereby AUs are supported in the Plug-in Mixer.
Control the Plug-in Mixer from UF8/UF1
A ‘Plug-in Mixer’ profile has been released for UF8/UF1 that will further enhance the experience of using UF8, UF1 and UC1 together to control the Plug-in Mixer.
