UC1 Enhanced Logic Pro DAW Control Integration via OSC (and UF8/UF1 set to Plug-in Mixer)

Features

As of SSL 360 v2.1.12, UC1/360° Plug-in Mixer has enhanced DAW integration with UC1 via OSC.

You can also experience this enhanced integration when UF8/UF1 is set to control the Plug-in Mixer Layer.

These features include:

  • Synchronised Track Selection with Logic Pro
  • Track Colours from Logic Pro
  • Solo and Mute linked directly to Logic Pro tracks
  • Control of Logic Pro Volume Faders and Pans
  • Control of up to 8 sends per track (UF8 set to the Plug-in Mixer Layer only)

Installation

  1. Ensure SSL 360° has been updated to v2.1.12
  2. Update your UC1 (and UF8 and UF1) controller firmware via the HOME page of the SSL 360° application.
  3. Ensure all your SSL 360°-enabled plug-ins are updated SSL Download Manager, so that they are on the latest versions (and therefore compatible with SSL 360° v2.1.12).

Logic Pro Version

Ensure you are running Logic Pro 12.

These new integration features were developed and tested using Logic Pro 12.

We cannot guarantee compatibility with previous versions, although these features should work with Logic Pro 11 and potentially work as far back as Logic Pro 10.6.

Setup

Launch Logic Pro. You should be greeted with the following pop-up message. Click 'Connect'.

[SSLAD10601] should be your computer's name.

In the Logic Pro -> Control Surfaces -> Setup... menu, ensure the newly created SSL 360 OSC Device is positioned beneath your Mackie Control unit(s), like in the image below.

Troubleshooting

Check Automatic Installation is switched on

If you did not see the OSC pop-up message, asking you to connect, then Automatic Installation might have been switched off.

In the Logic Pro -> Control Surfaces -> Setup... menu, click the 'New' dropdown list and tick 'Automatic Installation'. If it is already ticked, try toggling it off and then back on again.

Ensuring that Automatic Installation is now ticked, close Logic Pro and re-open it - the OSC pop-up prompt should now appear.

Please note that although you can manually add the SSL 360 OSC device via the 'Install...' menu, this will not work. For the OSC integration to work, it must be automatically discovered by Logic Pro.

Logic Pro in Local Network

Some users have reported that toggling Logic Pro off and then back on again in Local Network settings has helped to prompt the OSC pop-up message appearing, if the previous steps have failed.

  • Open System Settings on your Mac.
  • Click on Privacy & Security in the sidebar.
  • Select Local Network.
  • Find Logic Pro in the list of Local Network Applications and toggle its switch Off and then back On.

If Logic Pro is not listed, check your macOS Firewall settings under Privacy & Security to ensure the app is not being blocked from incoming connections.

Still Not Working?

Other important aspects to check that could be preventing the OSC integration from working:

  • If you have just updated SSL 360° (and your 360° plug-ins), you might need to try restarting your computer. It should not be necessary but is worth trying in case the SSL360Core did not restart correctly after updating.
  • If you have Logic Pro set to automatically launch at login (Login Items & Extensions on your Mac), disable this. Logic Pro (or any DAW), launching before the background SSL360Core service has started running, can lead to issues.

Important Change to Solos and Mutes System

In SSL 360 v2.0.6 and below, the solo and mute system worked in a different way. When you solo'd a 360°-Channel Strip, it muted the outputs of all other channel strips in the Logic Pro session. With SSL 360 v2.1.12, we are now more tightly integrated into Logic Pro and as such, we control the solo and mutes of the Logic Pro tracks themselves.
