SSL 2/2+ and BiG SiX Loopback Firmware Update

Loopback allows you to take the output audio stream from your SSL 2 or SSL 2+ and record it back into the DAW (or another application). This can be really useful for music makers, podcasters and streamers.

To take advantage of the new loopback feature of the SSL 2/2+ you will need to update your SSL2/2+ using the SSL USB Audio Firmware updater. 

Loopback copies the SSL2/2+ output 1+2 and makes it available at an additional pair of inputs. In your DAW, select the input channel called Loopback or inputs 3+4 and record the audio as you would with any other input channel. Be sure to mute the recording channel in your DAW to avoid creating a feedback loop!
Windows Users - Please also update the WDM ASIO/WDM USB Audio driver to V5.30.13 - available below - if you have not done so already.

Update Instructions - macOS

Important Note for SSL 2  - USB C to C connections are not supported for this Mac update. Connect to a USB A port on your Mac to avoid update failure. If your Mac only has USB C ports, a USB hub that has a USB A connection will be required (with a USB A to C cable).

1. Locate the SSL Audio Firmware Updater package for macOS and unzip the files.

2. Connect the Interface to the Mac as normal.

3. Launch the SSL Audio Firmware Updater app to automatically detect the interface and its

current firmware version (e.g. v0.61).

4. Select Update Device. The device will begin the update process.

5. A ‘Device Firmware update complete’ message will appear. You can now close the window.*


*Should the firmware update fail of be interrupted while in progress, power off the console, relaunch
the updater application then power on the console once more to re-attempt.

Update Instructions - Windows

1. Download and install the SSL USB ASIO/WDM Audio Driver v5.30.0.13.

2. Locate the SSL Audio Firmware Updater package for Windows and extract the files.

3. Connect the Interface to the Windows machine via a USB cable as normal.

4. Launch the SslUsbAudioDfu.exe file to open the updater application. If you are on a 32-bit operating system go into the x86 folder to find this. If you are on a 64-bit operating system go into the x64 folder to find this.

Once you've launched SslUsbAudioDfu.exe, the audio interface will automatically be detected and display its current firmware version (e.g. v0.61), plus a message saying ‘Ready for firmware update….’ in the main Upgrade window.

5. Select Start to update. The Upgrade window terminal will display ‘Firmware upgrade finished successfully’ upon completion.*
